Gems: What exactly do you want to know? R in Japanese is pronounced kindda like L. For example, Sayonara, Japanese will say Sayonala, with the L is pronounced very slightly.

No, I've heard they say "L" and "R", it isn't the same.
What I confuse is: my book say it's "R", and Western is "L". Then I listen to Japanese and they use... both @-)

the truth is, there is no L in Japanese writing system. They have Ra, Ri, Ru, Re, Ro, but no La, Li, Lu, Le, Lo, and I bet you cant find any words in Japanese that has "L" in it. That is why R is pronounced like L.
